Vietnam Visa Requirements: Who Needs a Visa and Who May Be Exempt

Use this guide to make a first check before you travel: start with your passport nationality, then review visa-free stays, eVisa/VOA options, basic documents, and urgent support if your travel date is close.

Check first

Start with your passport nationality.

Nationality is the first filter. Use this compact checker for a quick first review, then confirm stay length, route, timing, and any special-case details before relying on the result.

Select your nationality to check Vietnam visa guidance.

Results are based on ordinary-passport travel guidance and eVisa availability references reviewed in May 2026.

Who needs a visa?

Most travelers should check visa requirements before booking.

Vietnam allows visa-free entry for some passport nationalities and stay lengths. Travelers outside those exemptions usually need a valid visa option before departure.

Visa-free entry

Available to selected passport holders for a limited number of days. Longer stays or multiple-entry plans may still require an eVisa.

💻

Vietnam eVisa

A common online option for many nationalities, with single-entry and multiple-entry possibilities depending on current rules.

✈️

Visa on Arrival

Usually used for air travelers with a pre-approval letter. It is not the same as arriving without preparation.

🏛️

Embassy or consulate visa

Useful for special, long-stay, study, work, or cases that need direct authority handling.

Visa options

Choose the visa path that matches your trip.

The right option depends on passport nationality, arrival route, stay length, purpose of visit, and how soon you travel.

  • Can support short tourist/business trips depending on current eligibility.
  • Timing depends on processing option and authority handling.

  • Stamping is completed at the airport on arrival when eligible.

3. Embassy or consulate visa

  • You apply directly through the relevant diplomatic mission or authority channel.
Basic documents

Prepare the core documents before applying.

For eVisa or VOA support, having clean documents helps reduce review delays and avoid avoidable errors.

Passport validity

Passport should generally have at least 6 months validity and enough blank pages.

Passport bio page

A clear scan/photo of the information page is usually needed for online applications.

Portrait photo

Use a clear passport-style photo on a plain/light background.

Travel details

Payment method

Online applications usually require a valid card or accepted online payment method.

Last-minute travel

Need urgent or emergency Vietnam visa support?

If your flight is close, do not rely on regular processing without checking first. A shorter processing option may be possible depending on time, day, nationality, and case details.

Same-day support

Urgent support may be available when the case is suitable and submitted within workable hours.

🚨

1–2 hour emergency review

Emergency handling can be reviewed for eligible cases, but the final outcome remains with the relevant authority.

📆

Weekend / holiday help

Some urgent requests can be reviewed around weekends or holidays depending on available handling routes.

Before departure

Final checks before you travel.

Check your nationality, planned stay, entry route, and document condition before departure. If anything is close, unclear, or urgent, ask support before submitting or boarding.
